Assessments for ISAS will normally involve annual web-based self-assessment supported by site visits during the first/initial year and with a mid term surveillance visit. The normal accreditation cycle will be four years.

UKAS will be launching the new accreditation tool and assessment service for ISAS on Tuesday 9th June 2009 at the United Kingdom Radiological Congress, UKRC, in Manchester.

UKAS have invited a small number of imaging services to take part in an ‘ISAS Early Implementer Programme’ starting during April 2009. Participants in this programme will be using the tool for self-assessments and on satisfactory completion of all early implementer requirements will be accredited.

Participation in this UKAS accreditation and assessment service is voluntary. UKAS will process applications for this new service from both public and private sector providers on a ‘first come first served basis’ .

More details at: http://www.ukas.com/

It will provide a large-scale demonstration of how thin-client notebooks with location-aware technology can enable the University to not only provide no-fuss access to a full range of software and learning resources but also effectively manage the configuration of the facilities within the large flexible learning spaces of its new learning centre. By overlaying location information with additional data it can also provide insights into the way students use electronic and virtual resources at an individual level or within a group context and thus answer the questions that arise when designing new learning spaces.

Adrian Wheal was formerly responsible for Library and Information Services at the University of Lincoln. He said “I am delighted that JISC decided to support Canterbury in this innovative project, and privileged to be part of it. Canterbury Christ Church University are building a first-class Library and Learning Centre and with the inclusion of this leading-edge technology it could become a project that will interest librarians and information service managers throughout the world”.

More details at http://www.canterbury.ac.uk/projects/iborrow/

As provision of services becomes more diverse between the NHS and independent companies and as the locations in which services are offered become more scattered, the two colleges are seeking to provide a means by which patients and commissioners can be assured that their imaging will be delivered to the highest standards.

The development project is receiving support from the Department of Health (England) and a number of other partners. The intention is to create a process that encourages and supports development of best practice in four dimensions of service:

• Patient experience
• Use of scarce resources efficiently
• Clinical outcomes
• Patient safety.

The project website can be accessed at http://accreditation.rcr.ac.uk and is the source for the latest news about progress and background information on the programme.

This is done by:

•	arranging lectures, conferences, local history fairs and site visits on many topics related to Lincolnshire's history, archaeology and industrial archaeology;
•	the publishing of quarterly and annual periodicals, and a series of more substantial and academic volumes as part of a longer term programme;
• running a bookshop at Jews' Court, which is operated by volunteers , and which carries an extensive selection of new books on Lincolnshire, a thriving second-hand department, and a range of small gifts and souvenirs;
•	encouraging school parties visiting Lincoln to use the Society's Education Officer and premises;
•	facilitating research and field investigation;
•	working with affiliated groups throughout the county.

The society’s website is at www.lincolnshirepast.org.uk
